"The idea of weaving the words of women explaining what it means to be a woman in today’s society was an ingenious idea. Laura captured the voices of women through paper, India ink, and graphite. The pieces on display have been a huge hit." - Nancy Sulla (owner shegallery)

Lip prints are unique like fingerprints. Each has a story to tell.
Twelve years ago, artist Laura Gerry was intrigued by the shapes of a lip blot she made. Realizing there was significance within this image, she continued to play with the idea for years until, while preparing for an exhibit for Women's month, she realized that there were stories that could emerge from the individuals behind the lip prints .
...... And, the "Read My Lips Project" began.
The first set of lip prints were from a group of women who provided their personal stories, expressed what their lifetime accomplishments were, described what it meant to be a women today and other important things that they so deeply wanted to tell the world. Laura took those words and the lip prints and started creating the these images.
From that beginning, this ongoing series has progressed into: stories that mothers told children growing up (expressed through the mother's lip prints), vows that two people starting a life together wrote for each other and so much more.
